People across the world will celebrate World Blood Donor Day, commonly known as ‘WBDD’, on June 14 every year to raise awareness about safe blood donations and to thank those who donate blood voluntary and save the lives of others. It was first celebrated on the birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner — a scientist who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of the ABO blood group system — on June 14, 1868.
